CARBONATES
APPLIED TO HYDROCARBON EXPLORATION AND EXPLOITATION
March 1 - 5, 2004 at the Hilton Conference
Center, Univ. of Houston, Houston, Texas.
COST: $1175
DISCOUNTED FEE: $975 (for two or more from the same company)
INSTRUCTOR: JEFFREY J. DRAVIS (Consultant - Dravis Interests,
Inc., Houston)
FOR: Geologists, Geophysicists, Reservoir
Engineers, Log Analysts and Managers.
GOAL: After this seminar, each delegate will be able to describe
and classify typical carbonate rocks, interpret facies relationships,
delineate stratigraphic sequences and correlate facies within
them, evaluate reservoir quality in limestones and dolomites,
and better understand subsurface carbonate plays and reservoirs.
This is an excellent refresher course.
This five-day, in-house seminar introduces participants to established
principles of
carbonate sedimentology applied to hydrocarbon exploration and
development geology. Using a highly acclaimed, hands-on approach,
each participant learns to describe typical carbonate rocks,
delineate facies and sequences, evaluate reservoir quality, relate
carbonates to log and seismic expression, better predict play
relationships in the subsurface, and construct a time-stratigraphic
facies framework essential for both accurate regional correlation
of carbonate sequences and zonation of carbonate reservoirs.
Lectures are reinforced with exercises and problems keyed to
10 identical sample rock sets, each containing 56 representative
samples from around the world. A core problem with logs, based
on a real exploration target, further reinforces principles presented
in this seminar. A 750+ page notebook accompanies the course,
as well as a reference CD with pictures of samples used in various
exercises. This seminar has been presented to industry 37 times!
SEMINAR FORMAT:
DAY 1: Distinctive Aspects of Carbonates; Non-Skeletal grains;
Skeletal Grains.
DAY 2: Carbonate Classifications and Structures; Limestone Diagenesis
and Porosity Evolution.
DAY 3: Dolomitization and Porosity Evolution; Porosity Classification;
Attributes of Shallow and Deep-Marine Facies; Models - Platform;
Facies Models Ramp.
DAY 4: Carbonate Depositional Sequences & Cyclicity; Log
and Seismic Expression of Carbonates; Core Exercise With Logs.
DAY 5: Carbonate Play Types and Review of Case Studies; Use of
Depositional Cyclicity to Zone Carbonate Reservoirs (Review of
Two Case Studies); Carbonate Facies Correlation Exercise.

CARBONATE FIELD SEMINAR - CAICOS PLATFORM
MAY 3-10, 2004
Our 19th public Advanced Carbonate Field
Seminar on Caicos Platform,
southern Bahamas will be held from May 3-10, 2004. If you are
new to carbonates and need training, this seminar gives you the
critical
exposure to typical carbonate environments, their facies attributes
and reservoir potential, and a scale perspective needed by everyone
mapping in the subsurface. If you are experienced in carbonates,
you will be introduced to a platform that has yielded exciting
new models of
carbonate deposition and diagenesis related to trade winds. We
relate these relationships to petroleum case studies, like the
James Limestone (Fairway Field), Caspian Sea reservoirs (like
Kashagan), and numerous western Canadian Devonian and Mississippian
reservoirs. Previous participants have come away from this seminar
with new ideas for generating prospects or more efficiently developing
reservoirs.
Note that the registration deadline is:
March 31, 2004.
Note also our pricing policy that makes
it more affordable for two or
more people from the same company to attend this seminar.
Go to http://www.
dravisinterests.com/training.html, for more
seminar information and photos.

Overviews
Effective Negotiation - A 6-Step Process
This session will introduce and describe the six essential steps
required to complete an effective negotiation process. The 6
steps are necessary, important, and also require implementation
in the correct sequence.
Stress - The Overload Syndrome
Anyone living in today,s society understands the struggle of
trying to handle the demands of life. You don,t have enough time
to do the things you have do let alone the things you,d like
to do. You feel tired, worn out, and burned out. You,re not alone.
These symptoms are signs you,re suffering from the overload syndrome
caused by stress. Examine and find what stress is, what causes
stress, the effects of stress and principles to manage stress
in a positive and helpful way.
Both sessions will conclude with a
30 minute question and answer session. The online platform uses
Voice-Over-IP technology and requires a headset equipped
with a microphone (no telephones required).
Time (both dates): 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM (Eastern Time - GMT -
5 hours)
Maximum Number of Attendees: 25 (Twenty Five)
Fee (each session): $US95 (Visa and Mastercard accepted)

SPE/EAGE Joint Workshop
What do Petroleum Engineers expect from Time Lapse Seismic and
do Geophysicsists answer the right questions?
23-25 March 2004 - Radission SAS Royal Hotel, Copenhagen, Denmark
The first joint SPE/EAGE workshop is fast
approaching!
This is your opportunity to attend this
true multidisciplinary workshop. The goal of this event is to
bring together key technical experts from oil companies, contractors
and research institutions to discuss how geophysicists and petroleum
engineers can better integrate their working practices.
Please visit http://www.spe.org/spe/jsp/meeting/0,2460,1104_1535_1711372,00.html
to see the full workshop programme and to register. Please
contact the SPE London Office on Tel: +44 20 7299 3300 if you
have any questions.
Workshop description:
During the last decade, time lapse seismic, together with smart
well solutions, has been the most important contribution to the
successful improved oil recovery processes in oil companies.
This technology develops relentlessly, proposing new analysis
and interpretation tools at fast pace.
Today, despite time lapse seismic being
considered common practice in many oil companies, to some it
is still seen as an emerging technique. The main challenge is
to get the seismic results properly integrated in the reservoir
model and in the workflow of the integrated reservoir teams.
One reason for that is lack of common understanding between geophysicists
and reservoir engineers. What a reservoir engineer needs is often
different from what the geophysicist believes is needed, and
reservoir engineers may expect results from 4D seismic which
can currently not be delivered.
The sessions will cover Concepts, Gaps
and Challenges, Rock and Fluid Physics, Qualitative versus Quantitative
Use of 4D Seismic Data, Reservoir Monitoring (Discreet Surveys
& Continuous Monitoring), Cost Benefit: How Much and How
Often? Each session will be introduced with short keynote presentation(s)
followed by discussions.
